The Gathering Café: Seriously the Best Hidden Gem in Charleston

You know that place that you constantly pass by, utter to yourself, “I should stop in there someday”, but never do. Yeah, that was the Gathering Café. Located literally across the street from my house, I would pass by it daily, or go next door to Charleston Sports Pub, without ever really stopping in.

To make matters worse, I would constantly be reminded of it with coupons in the mail. I would save said coupons in hopes that I might have the courage to stop in. When it comes to restaurants, I’m always super nervous to stop into a place by myself. (Cue the panic of not knowing how to order, what to order, and if the place is packed with regulars and you are the odd ball, or not, type of nervous.)

A few days after Christmas, my husband and I popped into Red Orchid for dinner and a drink (can’t you tell we are Northbridge neighborhood people?!). While sitting at the bar, we ran into some fellow neighbors who raved about The Gathering Café.

The next day, I headed out of town for the day. My husband headed to the gym and wanted a good, wholesome breakfast afterwards. Heeding the advice of our neighbors, he headed to the Gathering Café. My husband can be quite a skeptic when it comes to food. While I was out of town, I was constantly getting texts from him raving about how good it was.

I came home that night and he was adamant about going back to the Gathering Café the next day, which so happened to be New Years’ Eve. I tried not to get too hyped up about it because I can be a picky eater.

The next day, we went in. It was quiet. Basically, the quintessential café atmosphere. I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich with potatoes. I figured I would keep it simple for my first visit. It’s kind of hard to mess up a breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was amazing and I absolutely loved the breakfast potatoes. The price isn’t crazy expensive either. They also serve $4 mimosas and Bellinis, as well as, a Sake Bloody Mary, if you are looking for some breakfast cocktails.

We have since gone back to the Gathering Café this past Sunday, as well, where we brought a friend along. This time I had a Black Bean Breakfast Burrito (I’ve given up meat for the New Year). The burrito was HUGE and delicious. The Gathering Café has become our new Sunday breakfast spot.

Now my husband and I keep saying we need to try it out for dinner. Hopefully, it doesn’t take us as long to try it for dinner as it did for breakfast!
