Deets: Prestigious films from all over the world take to the big screen at the annual Charleston International Film Festival. Last year’s event boasted more than 75 documentaries, animations, shorts, and features, including Draft Day starring Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner and Best Film award-winner Grape. Growing each year since its founding in 2005, the festival relocates to Charleston Music Hall this year for superior acoustics and an intimate atmosphere

Deets: The second annual Folly Beach Jazz Fest features both local acts and musicians from all over the country. Tony Monaco and Howard Paul, Gino Castillo, and Bobby Storm will perform along with Charleston’s own Kings of Jazz, The Mike Frost Band, and the Charleston Jazz Orchestra Ensemble. A big band will perform on the Folly Pier as well. The 2015 Folly Jazz Festival offers scholarships for kids to be able to attend four different jazz camps in the summer of 2016. Those winners will be announced at the end of the festival.

Deets: Charleston Curator will hosts a bi-annual tag sale throughtout the weekend. It's going to be a party with great items for sale including two containers of vintage antiques from France, local Charleston finds, and more. Beverages and snacks will be available on site. H

What: PBR Mural T-Shirt Release Party

Deets: In collaboration with Flooded Streets, The Alley's bowling pin mural done by David Boatwright is becoming a limited edition t-shirt. The bowling alley is throwing a party sponsored by PBR to celebrate the release of the shirts. There will be live music from Minimum Wage and Beach Tiger and dollar PBR cans until they run out. PBR will also be giving away PBR swag and prizes. Limited release of only 150 shirts.

What: Failure: A Love Story by Philip Dawkins

Deets: It’s 1928 in the windy city of Chicago and the three Fail sisters will be dead by year’s end, expiring in reverse order, youngest to oldest, from blunt object to the head, disappearance, and consumption. PURE Theatre presents this dark comedy by playwright Philip Dawkins that follows the trio of orphaned siblings as they live out their remaining months above the Fail family’s clock repair shop. Director Rodney Lee Rogers and visual artist Susan Klein transform the grim story into a magical, musical fable about how to live joyfully even in the face of imminent death. Failure: A Love Story will be playing at PURE Theatre from November 6-28.

Deets: Join Pet Helpers—the Lowcountry’s longest-standing no-kill shelter—as it hosts its biggest fundraising event of the year, the Fur Ball. For 2015, attendees enjoy a James Bond-themed “license to no kill” gala supporting the organization’s mission, preventing animal cruelty and providing orphaned animals with loving homes. The night’s auction includes items such as a five-day sailing charter and an insider’s trip to Napa Valley.

Deets: Candlefish is celebrating its first birthday by inviting guests the store to participate in various hands-on experiences as a "Chandler for a Day." Deets: The Craft Brew Races is a 5K road race (open to both runners and walkers) followed by a local craft beer festival. The series features races around the country in 2015. The post race beer festival will be held immediately following the race at Riverfront Park in North Charleston with 20+ breweries, food vendors, and local musicians in attendance. The South Carolina Brewer's Guild is the charitable beneficiary of the Charleston Craft Brew Races. A portion of all proceeds will go towards The Guild.

What: Pour House Mural Competition Live Painting and Music
Where: The Pour House

Deets: The Pour House hosts its 5th annual mural competition where artists have free reign over the venue to create a masterpiece and possibly win prizes. This year’s competition has two themes — “Musical Genres” and “Building Community Through Music.” Out of the numerous applicants (the deadline for entries was Oct. 19), 10 local artists were selected whose work best fit into these categories. From Nov. 1-8, the artists will create works of art on the exterior of the building. Once the artists have completed their murals, guests can vote for their favorite addition to the venue either in person or online from November 9-15. The three artists with the most votes will be awarded with prizes.

Deets: Miele Events is partnering with the Balzac Brothers & Company and Revelator Coffee Company to present the second annual Charleston Coffee Cup at The Cedar Room. "The Charleston Coffee Cup will feature the best regional roasters, coffee shops, and coffee-related businesses as well as coffee tastings, latte art competitions, and roasters challenges. A $500 cash prize will go to the Latte Art Champion and the winner of the Roasters Challenge will be featured in a full-page ad in Roast Magazine. Participants will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite brew." In addition to Second Sunday's usual lineup of alfresco dining, shopping opportunities, and free 2-hour parking vouchers courtesy of the City of Charleston, The Charleston Animal Society will be at Hassell Street with firefighters, firefighter calendars, and dogs. Skirt Magazine will also be there with their November Taste Issue, friends, and prizes from Lowcountry Plastic Surgery and Middleton Place. The College of Charleston Athletics Department will be at George Street with tickets and information to all their events. Sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association, this premier sporting event and Lowcountry tradition presents live horse racing at its finest.
