Spoleto Finale Ends With a Bang

Spoleto is such a great season in Charleston; it is the season of drinking excessive glasses of wine and hearing jazz and artists that ease the soul. The season ran for 17 days this year across Charleston.

This year’s finale was like a festival. I mean, where else can you go to a plantation, have a picnic, drink champagne, and listen to jazz music, all on a Sunday? Charleston’s Spoleto Finale was held on June 7, 2015 at Middleton Plantation, with live music, blankets spread throughout the grounds, and everyone enjoying an assortment of snacks and drinks. The day was spent touring the grounds and beer garden on-site, as well as listening to the local and regional bands, such as Johnny Delaware, Steven Fiore, and The Tarlatans—perfect live performances and an even better atmosphere.

The evening was capped off with the band St. Paul and the Broken Bones. Known for their raspy vocals and electrifying music, their performance will not be forgotten. The audience’s eyes were glued to the stage when they performed, and with influences like James Brown and Otis Redding, every age could listen and feel a connection with the band. St. Paul and the Broken Bones have this soulful sound that makes the whole room (or lawn, in this case) stand still. The seven-piece ensemble creates a perfect union of beautiful sounds, and the vocals of lead singer Paul Janeway are mesmerizing. The show was finished with an encore performance by the bend, and then followed by fireworks. A beautiful Sunday well spent, and a perfect closure to Spoleto.
