If you'd trade your mother for a solid helping of mac & cheese, clear your calendar for this Saturday and find your way to the Mac Off at Patriot's Point. If you've never been, it's exactly what it sounds like. A bunch of local restaurants getting together to out-cheese each other. They'll serve samples of their best macaroni & cheese, and you—the hearty, oh-so-discerning eater—can help decide whose 'roni rules.
Civil War Mac n' Cheese, Simply Recipes
Last year, Crave, Stono Market, and Graze won top honors.
Here's who's on board this year:
Crave * Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House * Graze * Angel Oak Restaurant
* Poogan's Porch * Fish House * Southern Season * Liberty Tap Room & Grill
* 39 Rue de Jean * Coleman Public House * New Moon Pizzeria & Pub
* Mosaic * The Green Goat * Moose's Mobile BBQ * Mad River Bar & Grill
Here's why Grit's going: There's a friggin' zip line. Really...
Well, it's not going to look QUITE like that, because there's no mountains at Patriot's Point, but you get our drift. Also? We're not sure how that's going to shake out with a belly full of mac n' cheese, but we're going to find out. They'll also have cooking demos by Rio Bertolini's ...
...live music by Brushfire...
... and Gracious Day
... and a (hot damn!) bloody Mary bar.
And part of the proceeds go to one of Grit's fave organizations, Lowcountry Local First. See you there?
